How to Celebrate the New Year

The majority of people celebrate the new year as a time to welcome in a new calendar year. In the traditional calendar, the year of the new begins at the beginning the month, however it may also be celebrated at any time during the year.

Romans offered promises to Janus

Xin Nian, also known as the Chinese New Year, is the most significant festival in China. It is celebrated for a period of days, usually between January 21 through February 20 in the Chinese calendar.

For the Chinese New Year In the lead up to Chinese New Year, people begin to decorate their home and make plans to visit relatives. Also, they eat special dishes as well as perform rituals. These rituals are believed by many to help rid the home of negative luck and to remove evil spirits.

A firework display can be seen in many places to ward off evil. Dancing dragons is also used to bring luck.

This Chinese New Year also signifies the start of spring. People wish each other good luck, and pray for a prosperous harvest.

Amongst all the ancient calendars and calendars, that of Coptic New Year is among the oldest. It is based upon the ancient Egyptian calendar. It also comes with a unique spiritual flavour.

The Coptic New Year is celebrated on the first day of the Egyptian month of Thout. It is also called The Feast of the Martyrs.
